Cycling and active mobility
Marketing copy and technical content for cycling brands and online retailers, translated from English into French.
Documents I translate
I translate cycling and active mobility documents from English (UK and US) into French (France), for cycling brands and online retailers, as well as for cycling networks and local authorities:
- marketing copy for online retail: category and brand pages, sales campaigns, newsletters;
- technical product sheets;
- brand storytelling and websites;
- documents for cycling networks and local authorities.
The subjects cover road cycling, gravel cycling, mountain biking, e-bikes, touring and bikepacking, as well as components, accessories and equipment, and more broadly soft mobility and eco-friendly transport.
Practical knowledge
As an active cyclist (mountain biking, gravel cycling, bikepacking), I have a first-hand understanding of your products and of what your customers expect.
Brands and public bodies
A technical product sheet requires accuracy and adherence to industry terminology. It calls for a standard translation, which faithfully renders your content whilst preserving the meaning, terminology and structure of your source text. Brand content and marketing copy often require localisation. Whilst translation focuses on accuracy and linguistic fidelity, localisation also aims to ensure cultural relevance and impact on your target market. In practical terms, I adapt examples, metaphors and idioms, adjust the tone and adapt calls to action to French conventions.
Documents for local authorities and cycling networks are close to my other field, environment and European policy, where soft mobility and eco-friendly transport are among the subjects I translate.
Layout
The documents I translate retain the original layout of your documents, so they can be used as soon as they are delivered. I work with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, PDF files, InDesign and Scribus for posters and brochures, and The GIMP and Inkscape for images. Formatting is part of the translation service, at no extra charge.
Consistent terminology
I use CAT tools with translation memories and a glossary for each client, so your product and component names stay the same from one catalogue or website update to the next. If you already have a glossary or a style guide, I use it.
Revision of existing pages
If your French pages or guides already exist, I can revise them: I compare them sentence by sentence with the English source text, check the terminology, and correct style, grammar and typography before publication.
Frequently asked questions
Which cycling documents do you translate?
For brands and online retailers: marketing copy, technical product sheets, category and brand pages, newsletters and sales campaigns. Also documents for cycling networks and local authorities. The subjects cover road cycling, gravel, mountain biking, e-bikes, touring and bikepacking, components, accessories and equipment.
Can you adapt our brand content for French riders?
Yes. For marketing copy I offer localisation: I adapt examples, idioms, tone and calls to action to French conventions, and convert dates, currencies and units. Slogans and very idiomatic copy are transcreated and charged by the hour. Technical product sheets keep a standard translation, faithful to the terminology.
Can you keep the layout of our brochures and leaflets?
Yes. The documents I translate retain the original layout of your documents. I work in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation files, PDF, InDesign and Scribus, and image editing software. Formatting is part of the translation service and is not charged separately; modifying images or graphics is quoted per item.
